Blog Debate: Declaration of Independence

Blog question: Were the founders justified in declaring their independence from Britain?

What does it mean to be justified?

Definition: to prove or show to be just, right, or reasonable

Rethinking the question: Did the founders have enough of a good reason to declare their independence from Britain?

Thinking it out: What reasons did the founders have for declaring independence from Britain?  (Think: list of grievances/charges against the king)

If they had enough good reasons and you think they were right for doing what they did, then they are justified.

If they did not have enough reasons, their reasons weren’t good, or you think they were wrong for what they did, then they are not justified.

Directions:

Write a blog post arguing your stance on the issue. Be sure to include evidence and to cite your sources (link). Be prepared to respond to counterarguments.
